The experimental artist‘s book Separations #1 is a process-work that represents the examination of how meaning is created through principles of confrontation, separation, montage and stratification. It is comprised of images and texts, whose starting point, on different levels, is their connection to themes such as origin, extraction and connection. In order for the process to take place, the formal parameters and rules for the usage and treatment of texts and images preceded the producing and collecting of the actual material (medium, size, positioning of text and image, principles of layering and zooming). Restricted and influenced in this way, the content not only creates an associative narrative between images and texts, but also simultaneously relates to the structure in which it is first created. The linking up of horizontal and vertical narratives over and through the pages disrupts those connections, introducing ambivalence into the supposed correlations between meanings and the representative connotations of the photographic image.
